Our Vision

The club strives to develop and offer new trails to a wide range of skiers: from primitive backcountry to intermediate recreational to expert terrain for training elite competitive athletes.

The club strives to develop and maintain appropriate facilities - from basic shelters on primitive trails to picnic sites and resting areas to interpretive trails and signs to a day lodge with toilet facilities and adequate parking.

The club strives to be responsive to the wishes of its members and the community at large in providing unique and varied outdoor recreation experiences in an environmentally responsible, fiscally prudent and operationally sustainable manner.

In doing so, the club wishes to make available a wide range of opportunities to all segments of the population, especially youth and older generations. We envision new and old generations enjoying the physical and mental health benefits of skiing, the beauty of the outdoors and appreciation of the working forest around them, gaining knowledge of the natural and historic resources of the province through various interpretive opportunities available to them, the exhilaration of exercise in a fresh winter environment, and the friendly spirit of competition.

We envision a safe, year-round, multi-use, accessible recreation and interpretive complex available for hiking, walking, nature study, biking, and cross country skiing that offers unparalleled forest-based recreational opportunities on a multitude of well-mapped and signed, optimally developed terrain 10 minutes from Nelson.
We envision day and evening skiing for four months a year on a wide variety of well groomed recreational trails or minimally groomed, safe backcountry trails that provide basic shelter facilities. Trails will be built to high standards to protect the environment and encourage year-round use.

We envision a larger improved day lodge at the Busk Trailhead with adequate parking, a staging area and facilities to accommodate a wide range of year-round uses. We envision a visitor entering the lodge and being directed to interpretive displays, orientation maps, and recommended activities for a safe and rewarding visit.
We envision an energetic volunteer-driven club promoting its core values of wellness, fitness, families, enjoyment of the natural outdoor enjoyment, recreation and environmental protection through year-round social activities, loppets and races, festivals , youth and masters programs, and other inclusive, community-oriented programs.

We envision working co-operatively with the government agencies, industry, our membership, and the general public to develop the trails, to secure and enhance wildlife habitat, enhance the economies of local communities without adverse effects on water quality, visual resources or forest productivity.
